Children of the Forest

Do you all know this beautiful picture book by Elsa Beskow?  This is one of Sam's favorites and we read it today for the first time since I've joined the learning village vision.  It was resonating in a new way for me as we read, but then when we came to the page where the children go to Mrs. Owl's school to learn the language of "all that squeaks, swims, flies, runs" and to "listen to the message of the wind, and to see the approach of spring even before the first snowdrop..."  well, even Sam paid attention in a new way and we talked about he'll soon be a forest child and go to a school like Mrs. Owl's...  

Wow!!!  It's hard to say which of us is more excited about this!

Anyhow... I like thinking of the students at the learning village as children of the forest.... aren't we all?!
