Some Apples, Some Potatoes

Welcome All to the creation of a Nature based community Learning Village.  At Sacred Mountain Sanctuary we invite you to explore, observe and participate in an actively engaging learning environment.  The Village opens to you many different learning modalities.  With only a few committed Teachers we invite 8 children per class to come and learn who they are and what there talents are with the support of Clear, loving teachers.  

Our first program is sprouting for the wee ones, ages 3-5.  The Starseed Forest Nursery program which takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-9:30-1pm.  This program is a Waldorf/Nature based learning/exploring environment.  We offer the gentle rhythms of Waldorf education with the an expanded serene environment  for observation of the seasons.  We start by planting seedlings in the Nursery garden beds and tend to the plants as they grow along side the children. 

 Each child will have a hand made journal, which will hold treasures written and beyond.  These journals will tell the story of each child's experience thru the eyes of the Caregivers. We’ll explore the natural world around us while learning who we are as individuals and in community.  Our mid morning snack will be that of warm/steamed Apples from the land.  At lunch we’ll all work together to prepare our daily feast.  For example, in Autumn we’ll nourish ourselves with the summer’s harvest.  We’ll peel carrots, scrub sweet potatoes, massage Kale and bake corn bread.  All together!  This will be lunch during the Autumn months.  When Winter arrives we’ll be blessed with an new Menu and we’ll all work together infusing our food with love, songs and laughter.  

The caregivers with hold a space of expanded kindness and safety so that all feel a sense of peace and an openness to explore and be.  Each teacher will hold an open space within themselves to be fully present in the  Nursery environment.   We are all honored that this land has opened it’s self up to the children.  This is a special space to learn and grow from, and we hope you all sense it too. 

We end our time together with a story told by one of the Nursery teachers.  This a great time for parents to arrive and settle into being with there child/children again.  Story will start at 12:45 and end around 1pm.

 I would love to invite diversity into the Learning Village playground.  By doing so we operate on a new way to support and  contribution to the Learning environment.  On Friday August 31st we will have our 1st sharing/offering for the Starseed Program.   This is a special Fire circle, for it will bring a deep sharing of what the financial/personal needs of the school are and an open sharing from all families.  We will pass around a basket where caregivers may write down how they can contribute to the teachers who hold this vision in there hearts.  This will be anonymous and if more is needed like Janis stated, We'll get creative!
